Three aid workers were killed Wednesday by assailants in the province of Badghis in northwestern Afghanistan, local officials said.

The three victims, a Belgian, a Swiss and a Dutchman working for Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), have been attacked around 16:00 local time (2030 GMT) in the town of Qadis, 60 km east of Qala -e-Naw, capital of Badghis province, reported by phone the governor of Badghis Azizullah Afzali told Xinhua (New China).

Two other employees, Afghans, MSF were also killed in the attack while 200 soldiers patrolling the Afghan province.

The Taliban and their allies in Al Qaeda have stepped up their guerrilla attacks since last summer, and vowed to hunt Afghan troops under U.S. command during their Jihad.

Organization of international humanitarian aid, MSF provides emergency medical assistance to populations in danger in more than 80 countries.
