The interim Iraqi government ready to govern, according to a U.S. official
The interim Iraqi government is ready to take state power after the transfer of sovereignty to Iraqis two days before the scheduled date of June 30, said Monday the deputy spokesman of U.S. State Department Adam Ereli.
Ereli discussed at a regular press conference two reasons for the transfer of power has been advanced.
“First, the Iraqi government is ready to take power. The Iraqi government believes it is symbolically important that Iraqis take power as soon as possible. Secondly, there is a security consideration, “said the spokesman.
Ereli described the early transfer of power as “a sign of progress, effacité and accomplishment, and an aggressive preventive approach against terrorists.”
He refused however to give a timetable on troop withdrawals from Iraq.
