German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder arrived in Caen on Sunday to join the 60th anniversary celebrations. It is the first German leader to attend commemorations of the Allied landing in Normandy.

Chancellor must be received by French President Jacques Chirac as mayor of Caen. It is then expected to Arromanches for the international celebration of landing which involved twenty Heads of State and Government.
